Editorial & medical review standards

Editorial Policy

Medical information carries consequences. Everything published here is authored or clinically reviewed by the physician who performs the procedures — dated, sourced, and corrected when it needs correcting.

In one paragraph

All clinical content on this site is written or reviewed by Paul D. Tortland, DO, a board-certified sports medicine physician and the first physician in the world certified in regenerative medicine. Pages carry a visible review date, cite published literature where claims depend on it, state plainly where evidence is weak, and never guarantee an outcome.

Standards

Written by the person holding the needle.

There is no content team. The physician who performs these procedures writes about them, and his name sits on the page along with the date he last read it.

  • Every clinical page names its author and its clinical reviewer — the same physician, not a byline borrowed for credibility.
  • No page is published by a marketing agency, a content vendor, or an unsupervised drafting tool.
  • Claims that depend on published evidence carry references to that evidence.
  • Clinical experience is labelled as clinical experience, never dressed up as trial data.
  • Where the literature disagrees with itself, the page says so and explains what that means for a patient decision.
  • Pricing, timelines and recovery expectations reflect what this practice actually does, not industry averages.
  • Educational content is never a substitute for examination; every page says so.

Process

How a page gets from question to publication.

Five steps, in this order, for every clinical page on the site.

01

Question first

A page exists because patients ask the question in the exam room. The heading is written as the question, and the first paragraph answers it plainly before any explanation begins.

02

Drafted by the physician

The draft is written by Dr. Tortland from clinical experience and the current literature — not by a marketing writer, an agency, or a language model producing copy unsupervised.

03

Evidence checked

Each claim is matched to a source: a peer-reviewed study, a society guideline, or explicitly labelled clinical experience. Claims that cannot be supported are cut, not softened.

04

Limits stated

Where evidence is thin, mixed, or absent, the page says so in the same voice as everything else. Where a treatment is unlikely to help, the page says that too.

05

Dated and revisited

The page publishes with a visible review date and enters the annual review cycle. Any material correction resets that date.

Claims

What this site will say — and what it never will.

We will say

What the evidence and the ultrasound actually support

  • Which conditions respond well, and which respond poorly.
  • Realistic timelines: when improvement typically begins and how long it holds.
  • Honest candidacy limits, including when surgery is the better option.
  • What a procedure costs here and what insurance generally covers.
  • Known risks, side effects and recovery restrictions.
We will not say

Language that overstates what orthobiologics can do

  • No guarantee of any outcome, for any patient, ever.
  • No claims of cartilage regrowth or joint regeneration.
  • No “FDA-approved stem cell treatment” framing — same-day autologous procedures are practice of medicine.
  • No before-and-after imagery presented as a typical result.
  • No patient story, image or review used without written authorization.

Questions

Questions about how we publish.

Who writes and reviews the content on this site?

Every clinical page and article is written or clinically reviewed by Paul D. Tortland, DO, FAOASM — board certified in Sports Medicine, Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine and Family Practice, Registered in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound, and the first physician in the world certified in regenerative medicine by the American Academy and Board of Regenerative Medicine. No content is outsourced to medical writing vendors or published without his review.

How often is content reviewed?

Every clinical page carries a visible “last clinically reviewed” date. Pages are reviewed at least annually, and immediately when relevant evidence, technique or regulatory guidance changes.

How are claims sourced?

Clinical claims are drawn from peer-reviewed literature and from nearly two decades of direct procedural experience. Key pages carry a references section. Where the published evidence is weak, conflicting or absent, the page states that rather than implying certainty.

What will you never claim?

No guarantees of outcome, no claims of cartilage regrowth, no “FDA-approved stem cell treatment” language, and no before-and-after imagery presented as a typical result. Same-day autologous procedures are performed under the practice of medicine, not as approved drug products.

How are financial relationships disclosed?

Dr. Tortland teaches and lectures for medical education organizations and has held consulting or faculty roles in physician training. Any financial relationship relevant to a product or device discussed on a page is disclosed on that page.

How do you handle patient privacy?

No patient image, story or review appears without written authorization. Contact forms are not used to collect protected health information — intake is completed by telephone or through the secure patient portal.

How can I report an error?

Email or call the office with the page and the concern. Corrections to clinical content are made promptly, the page notes what changed where the change is material, and the review date is updated.
